A rack frame / open frame refers to a structure (generally metal) based on at least 2 vertical plates called rack uprights on which electronic, audio-video or networking equipment such as servers, switches and switchboards are fixed with screws or placed on special guides.
Rack frames are open-top structures that offer maximum freedom to modify and install installed devices. They are primarily used in dust-free environments or in laboratories where the equipment does not require special protection. They are available in standard 19", 21", or metric versions (primarily for military use) with two or more rack uprights and variable dimensions.
